Care

Now that your tree is planted, all that is left is to care for it. Under proper care, your tree will grow, helping and supporting the environment.
Watering– When your sapling is young, make sure to deeply water it about every-other day. As it grows older, throughout the first 2-3 years water your sapling regularly. They should be deeply water at least 1-2 times a week. Do not just give your sapling a quick spray, this encourages weak and shallow root growth. If the soil is not already fertile then you can also add mulch around the tree, this will help to hold moisture. You can use anything from bark, wood chips, or compost as mulch. When distributing your mulch, make sure to not spread it too close to the trunk. Otherwise, too much moisture will be trapped, causing rotting, mold and insects.
Pruning and Trimming– Just make sure to trim off any dead leaves or branches to improve the health and complexion of the tree. You will want to trim any branches that are rubbing against another; in the way of things; dead; broken; or weak. When pruning your tree check that you’re not cutting too close to the trunk and that your tools are clean and sharp. For fruit trees, you want the strongest branches in order to produce large and healthy fruits. If a bird can fly through your fruit tree, then you have a good amount of space in between your branches.
By following these instructions, your tree should grow beautifully. If you have made it all the way to this step, congratulations!
